School Visits
My recent school visit at the Tanglin Trust School in Singapore was an absolute joy. I spent over two weeks talking to over 800 children about illustration, books and art, and also doing book readings. If you'd like to book me for a school session, please email me at chaaya.2311@gmail.com.
Some of the sessions I conducted included:
Being an Illustrator
I took the kids through an interactive presentation on who an illustrator is, what an illustrator does - including what a day in the life of an illustrator is (mostly drawing), what kind of jobs are illustration jobs, who art directors, editors, publishers are and how a book goes about getting made.
Create your own character
A super fun mix-and-match exercise, where the kids got to make their own character, pick their character's setting and sometimes also a name for their character. They learnt the basics of character design, and this was a great starting point to get them to getting them to write their own story. Many developed their characters into full-fledged protagonists in comic strips.

"Illustrator Chaaya Prabhat’s visit was the highlight of our new library’s opening weeks. Children explored her wonderful picture books, including Glitter Everywhere, which examines the environmental impact of glitter. The book has been shortlisted for the Red Dot Award 2026, and her visit marked the launch of this year’s awards.
Chaaya's talks were interactive, varied and well-prepared. The children were completely engaged throughout each session. Through live drawing workshops, students gained insight into the creative process and experimented with their own ideas. Together, they created artwork for each classroom, and Chaaya also illustrated new signage for the Junior Library.
